Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has appointed former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Wale Oladipo, as chairman of a 52-member committee to spearhead his re-election campaign ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The committee was inaugurated on Wednesday at the Government House in Osogbo, with the administration describing the move as part of efforts to consolidate political support and strengthen its campaign structure.
Oladipo, a prominent figure within the PDP and a member of its Board of Trustees, brings extensive experience in party administration and grassroots mobilization. He also serves as Pro-Chancellor of Osun State University, a role that has further positioned him within the state’s political and institutional framework.
His appointment is widely seen as an attempt to unify different factions within the party and align internal structures ahead of the election.
The re-election committee comprises party leaders, lawmakers, and political stakeholders drawn from across the state. Its responsibilities include coordinating campaign activities, mobilizing voters, and addressing internal disputes within the party to ensure a cohesive front.
The committee is also expected to promote the achievements of the current administration and develop strategies to counter opposition challenges.
Governor Adeleke, who came into office on the platform of the PDP, is expected to face strong competition from the All Progressives Congress, which is seeking to regain control of the state.
Analysts say the early formation of a campaign structure reflects the high stakes of the 2026 election, which is likely to serve as a key indicator of party strength in the Southwest ahead of the broader national political cycle.
Speaking at the inauguration, the governor expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to deliver victory, emphasizing the need for unity and sustained engagement with voters.
With political activities already intensifying, the performance of the committee is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the outcome of the upcoming governorship race in Osun State.
