Amaechi face prosecution by Rivers Govt on allegation of N96bn fraud
The former Minister of Transpiration, Rotimi Amaechi, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) losing the party toilet to Asiwaju Bpla Tinubu, may be facing prosecution by the Rivers State Pavement on allegations of N96 billion impropriety of the proceeds from the sales of state assets when he was governor of Rivers State. Governor Nyesom Wike on Friday revealed that the Rivers State government has filed criminal charges against the former Minister on alleged misuse of the state funds.
A commission of inquiry appointed by Governor Wike to probe the sale of valuable assets such as Omoku Gas Turbine, Afam Gas Turbine, Trans Amadi Gas Turbine, Eleme Gas Turbine, Olympia Hotel and the award of contract for the execution of Mono Rail Project by the state government in the Amaechi administration, had in its report, seemingly indicted the former governor.
Governor Wike revealed the filing of the suit against Amaechi when he was inaugurating the new State Executive Council, after appointing new set of commissioners.
