Amusan Continues Dominance, Sets New Meet Record in Taiwan

Nigeria’s world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, continued her impressive 2026 season by setting a new meet record at the New Taipei Athletics Open in Taiwan on Saturday.

Amusan powered to victory in 12.72 seconds despite running into a slight headwind of -0.3m/s. She finished well ahead of Taiwan’s Bo Ya Zhang, who came second in 13.17 seconds.

Although the time was slower than her season’s best, it was enough to erase the previous meet record and further demonstrate her consistency on the international circuit.

The latest achievement comes weeks after the 29-year-old secured her first Diamond League win of the season in Rabat, Morocco. There, she clocked 12.28 seconds, equalling her season’s best and breaking her own meeting record of 12.45 seconds set in 2025.

Amusan began her Diamond League campaign in China, finishing third in Shanghai with a time of 12.41 seconds before improving to 12.28 seconds to place second in Xiamen, where she was beaten only by American hurdler Masai Russell.

Her 12.28-second run remains among the fastest times recorded globally this year and ranks as one of the standout performances of the season.

Before her Diamond League outings, Amusan won gold in the women’s 100m hurdles at the African Championships in Accra, helping Nigeria secure its first gold medal of the competition.

Since making history at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, where she won gold and set the world record of 12.12 seconds, Amusan has remained one of the most dominant and consistent athletes in women’s hurdling.

While her latest winning time in New Taipei was not among her fastest, the new meet record further underlines her ability to deliver strong performances and maintain her status as one of the sport’s leading stars.
