APC chieftain extols Tinubu’s qualities, backs presidential bid, lauds outcome of national convention
The outcome of Saturday’s national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been described as clear pointer to better days ahead for the nation.
Hon. Dipo Olorunrinu, an APC stalwart in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State made this assertion in a chat with selected journalists.
Olorunrinu said: “The message from the outcome of our national convention is that of hope and future for the party. We must continue to do the right thing in a sustainable way and respect stakeholders’ feelings.
“I think we are good to move on into the 2023 general elections to win.I congratulate all the new National Working Committee (NWC) members and wish them the wisdom to pilot the affairs of the party to greatness.
“Our new national officers must shun every action capable of opening wounds healed through the interventions of President Muhammadu Buhari, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other leaders to arrive at the consensus,’’ he said.
Olorunrinu notes that the consensus arrangement for the emergence of members of the party’s NWC was commendable.
He represented Amuwo-Odofin Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly in the past and was also chairmanship aspirant in the 2021 Lagos State council polls.
The former lawmaker said the consensus arrangement was commendable because there was harmonisation, consultation, understanding and respect for individuals’ feelings.
On Tinubu’s presidential ambition at the 2023 general elections, he urged the party’s leadership to honour the former governor of Lagos State and present him as the consensus presidential candidate of the APC.
Olorunrinu said that such consensus if well discussed would save the ruling APC unforeseen issues that might arise after the primary election.
The former lawmaker noted that no other presidential aspirant within the party had the clout and experience to win election for the party in 2023.
He added that Tinubu, having served the party and contributed immensely to its creation and victory at the 2015 and 2019 elections, deserved to be honoured by APC as presidential consensus candidate.
Sen. Abdullahi Adamu emerged as the new National Chairman of the APC at its 2022 national convention held on March 26 in Abuja. Adamu emerged as the consensus candidate of the party after six other aspirants stepped down for him. Other national officers eventually emerged either by consensus or unopposed after withdrawals by contenders.
