By Kingsley Chukwuka
The President of the African Women Network (TAWN), Mrs. Patoris Okeahialam, has said Christians should take advantage of the season to invest in the indigent people within the society.
Okeahialam said Christmas is a season when brotherly love should be imbibe and the spirit of giving demonstrated for the good of others and for the development of society.
She made this call on Sunday while reeling out the measures taken by TAWN to reach out to the less privileged before and during Christmas.
TAWN mentioned that during the year it has organised seminars to boost women participation in contributing their quota in the revamp of the economy, listing “Business Growth in Challenging Times” as one of the topics taught.
Women have also been empowered through starter packs, cash donations, TAWN said.
Special Christmas Fun Fair in the hinterlands of Oworonshoki Lagos, held recently was also efforts by TAWN to reach out to Children who cannot afford a meal, the TAWN pilot told our correspondent.
She said at a time like this, the celebration of the birth of Christ should be a constant reminder of how God gave His only begotten son for the salvation of humanity.
“We, as humans, should, therefore, endeavor to make sacrifice, even when it is painful, for the good of others and for our society,” Okeahialam said.
Okeahialam urged Nigerians to go beyond the festivities and glamour associated with the Christmas season and strive to live out the true essence of the celebration.
“Fraternal love and giving to the poor are the hallmark of Christmas celebration. I enjoined all to lend helping hands to one another”.
She lauded all TAWN members for their contributions and support towards making the association goals achievable.
“Finally, I wished all Nigerians a Merry Christmas, and a peaceful and productive New Year”, Okeahialam said.
