Luxury bus accident claims seven lives on Benin-Ore Road
An accident along the Benin-Ore Road resulted in the death of seven passengers, leaving some others with injuries on Saturday morning.
The Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State in a statement on Saturday revealed that seven passengers died on the spot, while those that sustained injury were seven in number in the accident on Ososa Bridge along Benin-Ore Expressway.
The Public Education Officer of the Ogun State FRSC Command, Florence Okpe, in the statement disclosed that the accident was a collision of an unnumbered vehicle, has no registration number, and a Mercedes Benz Marcopolo Luxury Bus.
Okpe, though, did not give details of the route directions of the vehicles along the road, said that the accident could have been caused by wrongful overtaking and loss of control.
She highlighted: “A total of 63 persons were involved which comprised of 40 male adults, 15 female adults, five male children, and three female children.
“A total of seven persons were killed while seven others sustained injuries sustained injuries
“A total number of 49 persons were recorded unhurt.
“The injured victims were rendered first aid treatment while the deceased bodies were deposited at State Hospital Mortuary, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.”
The FRSC Sector Commander in Ogun State, according to Okpe, has warned motorists on dangerous driving, especially, during the Christmas and New Year period which is usually a time of high vehicular movement on major roads, as well as avoid night travel when visibility is poor.
Families and relations of victims of the accident, have been advised to contact the FRSC Ijebu-Ode Unit Command for more information on the accident, as the Sector Commander commiserated with the families of the victims.
