Court remands four over alleged gun-running link to Delta extra-judiciary killing

A High Court sitting in Asaba, Delta State, has remanded four suspected members of an alleged gun-running syndicate following the recovery of a firearm traced through a transport waybill linked to investigations surrounding the killing of Oghenemine Ogidi.

The suspects were arraigned after security operatives intercepted a Beretta pistol concealed in a commercial transport package. Investigators said the firearm was part of an ongoing probe into illegal arms trafficking networks operating across parts of the state.

Court officials ordered that the defendants be remanded in custody pending further hearing of the case and completion of investigations.

The latest development is connected to the broader investigation into the death of Oghenemine Ogidi, who was killed extra-juduciary by dismissed Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman and his team.

In that earlier case, ASP Nuhu and four other officers were already remanded by the court over their alleged involvement in Ogidi’s death, which occurred during an incident involving the interception of a transport waybill suspected to contain a firearm.

Investigators are now examining whether the recovered weapon and the activities of the alleged gun-running syndicate are linked to how the firearm involved in the original incident was sourced or transported.

The killing of Ogidi sparked widespread public outrage and renewed debate over police conduct, use of force, and illegal arms circulation in Delta State.

Authorities have not yet publicly established a direct operational link between the newly arrested suspects and the officers already facing prosecution, but both cases form part of ongoing investigations into firearm movement and the circumstances surrounding the fatal encounter.

The court adjourned proceedings to a later date as investigations continue.
