An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Tuesday, remanded 51-year old Adeyi Idowu at the Agodi Correctional Facility, for alleged unlawful possession of gun and firearms.
Idowu, a resident of Ogbomoso, is standing trial on one count charge of unlawful possession of gun.
The Magistrate, Mrs. M. M. Olagbenro, however, did not take the suspect’s plea due to lack in jurisdiction.
Olagbenro, therefore, ordered the suspect’s remand at the Agodi Correctional Facility, Ibadan, pending the issuance of advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) at the Oyo State Ministry of Justice.
She also adjourned the case to June 18, for mention.
Earlier the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Femi Oluwadare, told the court that the suspect on April 21, at about 9:00 a.m., at No 12, Tokotaya Street. Itaara, Ogbomoso, allegedly had in his possession one pump action rifle.
Oluwadare alleged that the gun was numbered No 5441 with three life cartridges without lawful authority.
He said the offence contravened Section 3 of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap RII, Vol.14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
