Man, 30, docked over alleged theft of iron rods valued N190,000

A 30-year old man, Abubakar Jubril, was on Tuesday, arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged stealing of iron rods.
Jubril, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and breach of peace, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp Elijah Adejare, told the court that the defendant and others at large, committed the offences at about 9.30a.m on April 27, at Omisanjana Area in Ado-Ekiti.
Adejare said that the defendant stole 16mm and 10mm iron rods valued N190,000, belonging to the complainant, Adams Umaru.
The prosecutor further said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of public peace.
He said that the offences contravened Section 302 and 181(1)(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
Adejare urged the court to adjourn the matter in order to enable him to study the case file, and assemble witnesses.
The Defence Counsel, Adeyinka Opaleke, prayed the court to grant his client bail, and promised that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Kehinde Awosika, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000, with one surety in like sum.
Awosika said that the surety must be a blood relation to the defendant, and adjourned the case to June 9 for hearing.
