Police theories have nailed a man identified as Victor down to a cultist, but investigations have started.

But the police have reason to suspect Victor belongs to cult: the manner of his attacks, his die-hard spirit, and past events in the Akede area of Osogbo, Osun.

On Saturday, a group of nine on three motorcycles rode in on Victor around 2 in the afternoon.

They all descended on him with guns, cutlasses, and clubs. He too manned up, and squared up against the band. Shooting, blows, punches, scuffles—all the cacophony rented the air.

Neighbours had to scamper. But Victor held his ground.

Witnesses said the gangsters first shot at him, then they try to chop him. Victor, however, was still standing.

“So they poured petrol on him, and lit him up,” a source said.

The attackers waited for a while, watching his flaming outline flail that early morning.

Certain they got him, the attackers—now clearly identified as a gang—left the scene.

Most cults in Nigeria operate that way when there’s rivalry between them, especially when a group or its member takes out a rival.

The neighbours who took off initially now returned to save the burning man struggling.

They put out the flame, and carried him to hospital.

Osun Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, said victor is in hospital. Alive.

“The victim is believed to be a member of a rival group. Our men are on the trail of the attackers,” she said.

Of what use is cultism to a man if the end of it is living in fear and intimidation? If you are not free but under the bondage of being slave to the wishes of others, why restricting yourself in life?
