DEBORAH: Threatened with 2023, Atiku deletes social media posts condemning killing
PDP leading presidential aspirant and ex-V.P Atiku Abubakar has been cowed by threats of losing votes in the north after he condemned the killing of a Christian student Deborah Samuel accused of blasphemy at the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto.
“There cannot be a justification for such gruesome murder. Deborah Yakubu was murdered, and all those behind her death must be brought to justice. My condolences to her family and friends,” he posted on his social media handle on Thursday.
But some Muslim followers of the former vice president reacted to the post with threats—especially about losing them in the 2023 presidential election.
After many of the threats from the northerners poured in, Atiku deleted the posts Friday morning.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Emir Abubakar Sa’ad has condemned the killing, asking law enforcement agencies to fish out the killers.
