The military regime in Gabon has sworn in General Brice Nguema as interim President of the country.

General Brice Nguema was named leader of the transition government after the military coup that ousted former President Ali Bongo from office in the central African country last week.

The military regime had nullified the result of the August 26 election which had pronounced Ali Bongo winner for a third term after two terms of 14 years.

Ali Bongo had succeeded his father, Omar Bongo, in 2009 after 41 years in power when he died in 2009. Omar was a life president from 1967 to 2009.
