Gbenga Ashafa speaks on plans of becoming next Lagos State Governor
By Boluwatife Ezekiel Olaleye
Senator Gbenga Ashafa representing the Lagos East Senatorial District has said that he has no plan to contest the governorship slot with the incumbent Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State.
According to Ashafa, in a statement, Thursday, “My attention has been drawn to news item published on an online news blog, captioned “Again Talks Gbenga Ashafa Interested in becoming next Lagos Gov floats about town”.
“I hereby use this medium to reiterate my support for the government, His Excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and to state that I am firmly focused on my assignment as the Senator representing the people of Lagos East Senatorial District in the upper chamber of the Legislature.
“I am equally committed to supporting the brilliant strides of the incumbent Governor of Lagos State and will continue to support him accordingly.
“It is pertinent to state at this juncture that only last week, on Friday 16th February, 2018, I used a medium through my address at the closing ceremony of the Entrepreneurship Training and Skill Acquisition program for constituents of Lagos East in conjunction with SMEDAN to further publicly drum up support for the government of Governor Ambode, particularly in the aspect of youth empowerment,” he said.
He recalled that he played a very vital role in rallying the Lagos East General Assembly of the All Progressives Congress to ensure that a vote of confidence was passed on government of Governor Ambode during the recent General Assembly, held in Ikorodu on December 4th 2017, under the leadership of Otunba Bushura Alebiosu (BUSH).
“I also wish to make it abundantly clear that I am currently focused on my assignment as the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District in the National Assembly,” he added.
