Girl, 15, drops dead while soldiers frogmarch her
Imo has begun investigation into the death of a 15-year-old student of Army Day Secondary School, Obinze, Owerri, who died during a corporal punishment by soldiers in the school.
According to Gertrud Oduka, the commissioner for education, the government won’t issue a statement in a hurry.
“We have launched an investigation to ascertain the actual cause of the death of the pupil. Some senior officers of the ministry are in the girl’s village. The matter is a sensitive one and we are being careful.”
Queendaline Ekezie and her colleague, Delight Aguocha, got to school late on Thursday, February 15, 2018, and two soldiers on the school premises frogmarched three times them for coming late.
Ekezie, however, collapsed and was rushed to an army hospital where she died.
The girl’s father, Hyginus, reportedly fainted on hearing the sad news
