Gov Sanwo-Olu assents to VAT Act
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has assented to law the Lagos State Value Added Tax Act as passed by the State House of Assembly.
Governor Sanwo-Olu signed the “bill for a law to impose and charge VAT on certain goods and services” into law at about 11. 45am on Saturday, after returning from an official trip to Abuja.
Lagos State government had earlier applied to be joined as co-respondent in the appeal filed by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) at the Court of Appeal, Abuja, challenging the judgement of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, which empowered the Rivers State Government, and not the federal government, to collect VAT in the state.
