Lagos Governor expresses sympathy over Radio Nigeria fire incident in Ikoyi

The governor praised emergency responders for their swift action in preventing loss of life during the incident.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has expressed his condolences to the management and staff of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) following a fire that broke out on Wednesday evening at the Radio Nigeria Broadcasting House in Ikoyi.

The fire, which affected two buildings, including control rooms and a studio, caused significant damage. According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the blaze originated from an air conditioning unit before it escalated.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the incident as “unfortunate” and expressed concern over the substantial loss incurred by FRCN.

He noted that property worth millions of Naira was destroyed in the fire.

“It is with a heavy heart that I received the report of the fire outbreak that occurred at the Radio Nigeria Broadcasting House in Ikoyi on Wednesday evening.

The incident is unfortunate considering the amount of properties and equipment destroyed during the inferno,” Sanwo-Olu said.

The governor also extended his thoughts and prayers to the management and staff of FRCN, particularly those at the Radio Nigeria Lagos Office.

Sanwo-Olu commended the quick response of emergency services, including LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Federal Fire Service, and the Lagos State Ambulance Service, for their efforts in preventing any loss of life while containing the fire.
