By Lanre Adesanya
The Lagos state commissioner for Energy and Mineral resources Mr Olawale Oluwo, has revealed plans mapped out to tackle the power supply issues as well as attend to the future electricity needs of Lagosians.
Oluwo noted that owing to the constitutional brick walls (Concurrent listing of energy matters), which clearly restricts the ministry he superintends, the state only focus on the availability window of captive power generation.
Appraising the attainment of the state in the energy sector, he noted that, “we have successfully developed five independent power projects , which churns out 47.35megawatts, this powers state government facilities hospital, schools, waterworks, public lighting, etc.
This intervention enables the state to power its facilities, while its good that Lagos state government has freed national grid of 47.35mw.
Its clear that government must move to the next level from providing power for its own use only, to facilitating the platform for providing power to house holds and business.
Accordingly, we expect the advisory committee to be inaugurated shortly by His Excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to provide the platform for intervention in the following areas; review and finalizing a holistic and implementation road map for sustainable power supply in Lagos, facilitation of enforcement of the laws to curb power assets vandalization, sabotage , illegal connection, tampering with meters, as well as support the state govt to its interface with the federal quantities.
It will also attend to updating the citizen of Lagos on the situation of the power sector on a timely basis, so people and businesses can plan appropriately.
