Popular Nigerian comedian and activist Mr Macaroni has revealed details of a past interaction with Babajide Sanwo-Olu following his arrest and alleged harassment during the EndSARS demonstrations.

Speaking on the incident, Mr Macaroni said the Lagos State governor invited him to his office to apologize after the events that unfolded during the protests, which saw several demonstrators detained by security operatives. However, the activist said he declined the invitation and instead asked the governor to visit him at his residence.

According to him, his response was rooted in the principle of public accountability, emphasizing that elected officials are servants of the people. He stated that he made it clear to the governor that the relationship between citizens and government should reflect that dynamic.

The #EndSARS protests, which erupted in 2020, were driven by widespread outrage against police brutality and misconduct, particularly involving the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). The demonstrations drew national and international attention, with many young Nigerians, including public figures like Mr Macaroni, playing prominent roles.

His comments have since reignited conversations about governance, civic responsibility, and the expectations citizens have of their leaders. While reactions remain mixed, supporters argue that his stance underscores the importance of holding public office holders accountable, while critics have debated the tone and approach of the exchange.

The Lagos State Government has not issued a fresh statement regarding the claims, but the remarks continue to generate discussion across political and social circles.
