Former Ogun State governor and senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, was on Monday denied entry into a stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, highlighting deepening divisions within the party.

The incident occurred at Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu Ode, where party members had gathered for a caucus meeting. In a video that circulated widely on social media, Daniel was seen addressing supporters after he was reportedly prevented from entering the venue by security personnel and party officials.

Reacting to the development, Daniel expressed surprise at his exclusion, stating that he had been invited as a member of the Ogun East caucus. He questioned the legitimacy of decisions taken at the meeting, suggesting that his absence undermined its validity.

The meeting was said to include key party stakeholders such as current and former office holders, making his exclusion particularly notable.

The controversy is linked to an ongoing dispute over Daniel’s status within the state chapter of the APC. Party officials in Ogun have maintained that the senator remains under suspension over alleged anti-party activities during the 2023 elections.

They argue that under party rules, suspended members are not permitted to participate in official meetings. However, this position contrasts with that of the party’s national leadership, which has previously described Daniel as a legitimate member.

Observers say the development reflects broader political tensions within the party in Ogun State, including reported disagreements involving Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The incident comes amid early positioning ahead of the 2027 elections, with internal contests for key political offices already generating friction among party leaders.

Daniel’s supporters have criticised the move, describing it as politically motivated, while the situation is expected to attract attention at the national level of the party.

The episode underscores ongoing divisions within the Ogun APC, raising questions about party cohesion as preparations gradually build toward future electoral contests.
