New deaf federation president outlines  his sports agenda

Suleiman Saka, the new elected president of the Nigeria Deaf Federation, on Thursday said they would work hard to take the federation to the next level.

The Deaf Federation election held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Saka emerged winner of the election with 10 votes out of 12 registered board members.

Edward Uzoma, his opponent in the election, had two votes.

In the election for vice-president, Ige-Jenyo  Olawale won with 10 votes as an unopposed candidate.

Saka later said the new board would work from where the former president of the Federation stopped.

“I will continue from where my  former president stopped and we will create new things to what the former  president did.

“The former president did wonderfully well and I will add new ideas to make deaf sports successful in Nigeria,” he said.

He disclosed that he would set up a committee that would work for the development of the sports.

“I will set up a committee on publicity to work with us in partnership and I will demand that we have frequent meetings with them.

“We will partner with  the Directors of Sports and we will also partner with other federations to carry out campaigns about deaf sports in Nigeria,

“We will also go to the ministry of Education’s department of sports and work with them to carry out campaigns about deaf sports, ” Saka said.

He added that he had envisaged facing several challenges.

Saka however said his experience would help him, especially as the immediate-past president is with him to support him to achieve their goal.

“We have the federation secretary. He is also doing wonderfully well, full of experience. They are all there for me.
