Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) has strongly refuted allegations made by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, accusing Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of orchestrating a planned protest named EndBadGovernance. Onanuga claimed that Obi should be held accountable for any disorder arising from the protest.

In a statement issued on Saturday by Yunusa Tanko, POMR dismissed these claims as “wicked and baseless,” asserting that they are part of a calculated attempt to arrest Obi, restrict his freedoms, and hinder his advocacy for good governance, which they believe threatens certain lavish lifestyles.

“Peter Obi, through his conduct both in and out of political office, has never been associated with violence, even under provocation,” the statement read. “During the election campaign, he remained focused on issues without personal attacks.”

POMR also alleged that “multiple attack dogs” have been deployed to discredit Obi and prevent him from reaching the Nigerian public, who are eager to hear his perspectives on pressing issues. The statement continued, “These hired operatives spread falsehoods to distract Obi and mislead Nigerians, who view him as a stabilizing force in the current turbulent political and economic climate.”

The group criticized the administration for attempting to link the country’s challenges, such as the fallout from fuel subsidies, increasing poverty, inflation, nepotism, and unresolved historical conflicts, to Obi.

POMR called on Nigerians to dismiss the Presidency’s claims, affirming that Obi and his supporters, both in Nigeria and abroad, would not be intimidated or distracted in their pursuit of a new Nigeria.
