Okowa visits flood victims at IDP camps in Ewulu, Asaba, advocates building of new dams
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, 2023 Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), visiting flood victims at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camps in Ewulu, Aniociha Sout Local government Area, and Asaba, Oshimili Local Government Area in Delta State, advocated the urgent need for the federal government to build new dams and desilt major rivers in the country to accommodate waters released from dams in neighbour countries, in order prevent flooding in Nigeria.
Governor Okowa visiting flood victims at Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camps at Ogbe-Afor Primary School, Oneh Primary School, Asaba, and Ewulu Mixed Grammar School, Ewulu, identified River Niger and River Benue as major rivers that require urgent desilting to accommodate more volume of flood water all through the year.
The Governor stated that government should take proactive actions to forestall flooding hazards that emanate from the opening of dams in neighbouring countries, as the best way to end the loss of lives and valuables to flood in the country.
He assured the victims of the state government’s support.
