PDP rejects Mohammed Abacha, appeals judgement on governorship candidate in Kano
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction loyal to Sadik Wali in Kano State has rejected Mohammed Abacha as the party’s governorship candidate in the state. The faction, therefore, appealed the judgement of the Federal High Court in Kano which recognised Abacha as PDP governorship candidate for the 2023 elections in Kano, nullifying the PDP governorship primary election that produced Wali, declaring it invalid.
The running mate to Wali, Dr Yusuf Danbatta, less than 24 hours after the judgement, stated that the party faction has filed an appeal challenging the judgement of Justice A.M. Liman of the Federal High Court in Kano which on Thursday upheld Mohammed Abacha as the PDP governorship candidate in Kano, and subsequently directed that his name be cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to Danbatta, “We have already approached the Court of Appeal. We have already filed. You know he (the Judge) delivered judgement via Zoom. So, we listened to all the grounds, and he said the only ground he is relying on was that PDP failed to give notice of 21 days.
“So, if that is the case, which party is Mohammed Abacha contesting under? Is he contesting under APGA or what? Be that as it may, what we did this morning, we already filed our appeal where we have over 20 grounds while that judgement should be turned around By God’s grace.”
