Plateau LGA boss, Zulfa remain Chairman, lawmakers rules
By Kingsley Chukwuka
The Plateau State House of Assembly, has nullified the impeachment meted out to the Council Chairman of Langtang North, Hon. Rimven Zulfa.
Recall that Zulfa was impeached on Tuesday by some members of the Langtang North legislative council under the grounds of gross misconduct and misappropriation of N300,000,000.
Reacting to the development on Wednesday during plenary, Speaker of the Plateau Assembly, Hon. Yakubu Sanda nullified the impeachment, stating that there was no official communication from the council legislators to the council Chairman, therefore affirming that the impeachment cannot stand.
The Speaker made the recommendation following the motion raised by the member representing Pankshin South Hon. Philip Dasun which was seconded by the member representing Shendam LGA.
Sanda declared the impeachment null and void and ordered that the status quo should be maintained.
The State Assembly however mandated the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, headed by Ibrahim Baba Hassan to investigate the allegations levelled against LGA Chairmen, Mr, Zulfa and report back to the house within one week.
Speaking after the reinstatement of the State Assembly, Zulfa in a press briefing in Jos, Thursday, disclosed that he remains the Executive Chairman of the council and would continue to work out modalities to better the lives of the people.
He described the vote of no confidence passed on him as scandalous, irritating and laughable.
He reemphasized he was not served impeachment notice not to think of failing to respond to any allegations raised by the LGA legislators.
Zulfa also described the corruption levelled against him as lies, saying it was all calculated to bring him down.
According to him: “These are lies from the pit of hell. As Chairman, my relationship with my Councillors are cordial and we are one big family and would resolve our differences soon”, he said.
