Police arrest suspect over fatal stabbing of 36-year-old man in Cross River

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 36-year-old man following a violent altercation in the state.

The incident, which reportedly occurred over the weekend, has sparked concern among residents over the growing trend of minor disputes escalating into deadly confrontations.

According to preliminary investigations, the victim and the suspect were involved in a heated argument that quickly turned violent. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly produced a knife and stabbed the victim.

Eyewitnesses said the attack caused panic in the area as residents rushed to intervene and alert security operatives.

Police officers responding to a distress call arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and arrested the suspect. Investigators also recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment but was later confirmed dead by medical personnel due to injuries sustained during the assault.

Confirming the incident, the Cross River State Police Command said the suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue.

“Our operatives responded promptly to the incident, secured the scene, recovered the weapon used in the attack, and arrested the suspect,” a police spokesperson said. “A thorough investigation is underway to determine the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident.”

The victim’s body has been deposited in a morgue pending a post-mortem examination.

Police authorities disclosed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Calabar for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Detectives are currently taking statements from witnesses and gathering additional evidence to establish the full sequence of events surrounding the killing.

The police have also urged residents to avoid resorting to violence during disagreements and instead seek lawful means of resolving disputes.

The suspect is expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
