Police arrest two suspects over murder of 33-year-old woman
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of a 33-year-old woman in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, identified as Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara and Makuochukwu Uzoigwe, were apprehended following what police described as an intelligence-led investigation into the incident.
According to preliminary findings, the victim was found dead under circumstances that triggered alarm within the Oraifite community. Police said operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) acted on intelligence and technical leads traced to the suspects, leading to their arrest before they could leave the area.
The Anambra State Police Command said investigations are ongoing and that further details, including the motive behind the killing, are being withheld at this stage to preserve the integrity of the case.
Police authorities reaffirmed their commitment to prosecuting violent crimes, particularly offences against women, stressing that the suspects would be charged in court upon completion of investigations.
In a statement, the command said forensic and homicide units are working to establish a clear timeline of events leading to the victim’s death, while evidence gathered so far is being compiled for prosecution.
The police also commended local residents and community vigilante groups for providing information that aided the swift arrest of the suspects.
The suspects remain in custody as preparations continue for their arraignment in court.
