Community youths invade forest, rescue kidnapped girls, nab suspects
Residents of Ohafia community in Abia state have reportedly taken security matters into their own hands after two young girls were allegedly kidnapped by suspected bandits who demanded a N20 million ransom, pegged at N10 million per victim.
According to local accounts, instead of waiting for official intervention, a group of local youths mobilised and launched a search operation into surrounding bush areas believed to be used as hideouts by the abductors.
The youths were said to have tracked down the suspected kidnappers, successfully rescued the two girls alive, and also apprehended one of the alleged abductors during the operation.

The suspect was reportedly handed over to relevant authorities for further investigation.
The rescued victims were brought back to the community safely, a development that has brought relief to residents and relatives.
The incident has not received widespread national attention, but it has sparked conversations around community-led responses to insecurity, especially in areas where residents feel response from security agencies may be delayed.
While the rescue has been widely described locally as a display of courage and unity, security experts often caution against civilians directly confronting armed suspects, stressing the risks involved and the need for coordinated law enforcement action.
