Police guard scene, as rescuers found 10 dead in Ibadan building collapse
The Oyo State Police Command on Thursday deployed personnel of the Command to guard the scene of Ibadan building collapse in the State, where 10 persons were found dead in rescue operations.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, SP Osifesp Adewale, @OyoPoliceNG
“RE: BUILDING COLLAPSE INCIDENT
“Today being Thursday, 31/10/2024 around 0200hrs, a Storey building located around Ojugbede Jegede Area, Ogbere collapsed leading to the immediate loss of (10) Ten Lives while (8) Eight others are currently battling with various degrees of life threatening injuries.

“Adequate security has currently been emplaced in the area to prevent hoodlums from taking over the incident scene and as well protect the lives and property of other residents within the Jurisdiction.
“Investigation is ongoing at the moment to unravel the possible circumstance that could have led to the incident.
“Updates would be provided accordingly, please.”
Meanwhile, the General Manager of Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Yemi Akinyinka, leading rescue operations at the scene, confirmed that 10 persons were feared dead in the one storey building which collapsed in the morning of Thursday in Ibadan.
Akinyinka disclosed that 7 persons sustained injures in the building collapse that occurred at about 2.00 a.m at Jegede Olunloyo area of Ibadan.
The General Manager e said that the agency received a distressed call about the collapse of the building at about 2.00 a.m and immediately deployed personnel to the scene.
According to him, ”the Oyo State Fire Services Agency received a distressed call at about 2 am, at Jegede Olunloyo area, Ibadan of which 10 persons have been recovered from debris of the collapsed building, while seven persons were rescued alive.”
The general manager maintained that rescue operation is in progress.
