Presidency 2023: Okowa emerges Atiku’s running mate
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State on Thursday emerged the running mate to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 elections. Former Atiku Abubakar revealed the choice of Okowa as the party’s vice presidential candidate at a meeting with the PDP executive at the National Secretariat, Abuja.
The National Chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu, disclosed that a 17-member committee was set up by the party to screen and select a running mate for the party. Ayu said that the committee submitted three names to Atiku to decide.
Atiku at the meeting, said that making a choice between the three names had been a difficult decision. The PDP presidential candidate emphasised that some of the qualities he looked out for include someone who understands the enormity of the challenges facing the country and one who has demonstrated, from experience, that he can proffer some solutions. Atiku added that he also looked out for someone who has the qualities of a president, who can stand in for him when he’s not around.
He said that the three names submitted by the party are qualified.
