Reno Omokri reacts to Okupe’s conviction for money laundering
Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has mocked his former colleague, convicted former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr Doyin Okupe, after that latter’s sentencing.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned Okupe in 2019 on a 59-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering and diversion of funds to the tune of N702 million.
Okupe was found guilty on a total of 26 counts – from counts 34 to 59 of the charges, and jailed for two years with an option of a fine.
Omokri, shortly after the court judgment, tweeted a video of Okupe standing with his lawyers inside the court premises, with the caption “Video of Doyin Okupe Looking Humble after His Conviction”
Justice Ojukwu convicted Okupe on counts 34 to 59 which deal with breach of the Money Laundering Act.
He was found to have received cash payments above N5 million on each transaction from the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) under Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd).
