Revealed: 2 PDP governors set to join APC
Two governors currently serving on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are set to jump ship and defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
This is according to a source familiar with the development who hinted that negotiations between the governors and the APC are already in progress while terms and conditions are been finalized.
Further information revealed by the source has it that one of the governors is from the south while the other is a Northwest governor.
The names were however not revealed but the source claimed the talk is being facilitated by another governor.
The source decided against revealing the identities of the actors involved in the defection plan in order not to sabotage the ongoing talks.
But National Daily recalls Femi Fani-Kayode who also dumped the PDP for APC last Thursday claimed that three PDP governors would soon defect to APC.
He named the governors as Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
The claims by Fani-Kayode have however been debunked by Governor Ugwuanyi.
Speaking on the alleged pending defection, the source quoted in a report by The Nation as monitored by National Daily correspondent said some federal lawmakers (Senators and Rep Members) are also in negotiation with the APC leadership to defect ahead of the 2023 general elections in Nigeria.
The source said: “If the negotiation goes well as designed, two more PDP governors, some Senators and members of the House of Representatives will soon join the All Progressives Congress. The way the APC is coordinating and penetrating PDP, the party may end up as a carcass.
“The two governors include one from the North-East and another from the South. I don’t want to mention the second governor’s geopolitical zone in order not to jeopardize the ongoing talks.
“A respected governor is one of those trying to woo the two governors. I think the APC deal is timely for the two governors to checkmate the party’s opposition to PDP in their states.
“This is why the PDP governors have made the control of the party’s structure a condition for defecting to APC. They want to guarantee their second term ticket.”
Meanwhile, Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have accused Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi of acting as a mole for the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2019 general elections in the country.
The governors, who spoke on Saturday through the Director-General of the PDP governors’ forum Hon. CID Maduabum, said Umahi sabotaged party efforts and worked against the PDP during the 2019 elections despite being a party member at that time.
The allegation comes as part of the response to the position of the Ebonyi State Governor who on Friday said southern governors and particularly those of them from the PDP are not trustworthy.
