Rodri, Cubarsí, Unai Simón lead Spain’s World Cup awards sweep

Spain emerged as the biggest individual winner at the 2026 FIFA World Cup awards after sweeping three of the tournament’s major accolades, while Argentina made history by reaching another World Cup final without producing a single individual award recipient.

Midfielder Rodri was named the tournament’s Best Player following his influential performances in Spain’s successful campaign. The Spanish star controlled the midfield throughout the competition and played a pivotal role in his country’s triumph.

Spain’s impressive showing was further underlined by defender Pau Cubarsí, who claimed the Best Young Player award after a series of mature performances that established him as one of the tournament’s breakout stars.

Goalkeeper Unai Simón completed Spain’s clean sweep of the major individual honours by winning the Best Goalkeeper award. Spain also finished with the tournament’s strongest defensive record, conceding just one goal throughout the competition.

Despite France falling short of lifting the trophy, Kylian Mbappé secured the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer with 10 goals. His teammate, Michael Olise, finished as the leading assist provider with seven assists, highlighting France’s attacking quality.

England and France ended the tournament as the highest-scoring teams, with both nations netting 20 goals during the competition.

Argentina, meanwhile, achieved a unique milestone by becoming the first nation to reach a FIFA World Cup final without having any of its players win an individual tournament award. The historic feat underscored the team’s collective strength, even as the tournament’s top individual honours went to players from Spain and France.
