Showunmi celebrates Court ruling against Atiku’s ADC ticket, viral video sparks reactions [VIDEO]
A video showing Segun Showunmi, a former aide to ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, dancing in celebration following a court ruling that nullified the African Democratic Congress (ADC) leadership and its 2027 presidential ticket has gone viral on social media.
Showunmi, who has been a vocal critic of Atiku’s decision to join the ADC, was seen laughing, clapping and dancing in the footage shortly after news emerged that the Federal High Court in Abuja had sacked the party’s leadership under former Senate President David Mark.
In the video, Showunmi appeared to take a victory lap over the judgment, insisting that he had warned against the political arrangement that brought Atiku into the ADC.
“I forewarned. I told them this would happen. They did not listen,” he said.
He further maintained that his earlier warnings had been dismissed as the product of bitterness and jealousy.
“When I was shouting, they said I was bitter. When I warned, they said I was jealous. Now the court has spoken,” Showunmi added.
Showunmi had repeatedly questioned the legitimacy and sustainability of the coalition that took over the ADC under Mark, arguing that the political arrangement was built on a weak foundation and would not withstand legal scrutiny.
He had also advised Atiku to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and work towards rebuilding it rather than joining what he described as a coalition of aggrieved politicians without a solid political structure.
The controversy followed a judgment delivered by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which nullified the leadership structure of the ADC under Mark and invalidated the party’s 2027 presidential ticket held by Atiku.

The judge reportedly held that the Mark-led Caretaker Committee, which conducted the party’s presidential primary that produced Atiku as its candidate, was not legally constituted.
The judgment also affected the party’s national officers, including its National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, as well as candidates presented by the ADC to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2027 general elections.
The suit was instituted by Nafiu Bala Gombe, a former ADC Deputy National Chairman, North-East, who challenged the process through which Mark and other members assumed control of the party following the resignation of its former chairman, Ralph Nwosu.
The ruling has introduced fresh uncertainty into the ADC’s political future and Atiku’s presidential ambition, particularly as political parties and opposition figures begin preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Showunmi’s celebratory video has since generated reactions online, with the former Atiku aide using the court decision to reinforce his earlier criticism of the coalition arrangement.
However, the legal and political implications of the judgment, including its impact on the ADC’s leadership and candidates, are likely to remain subjects of further political and legal contestation
