US sports Journalist slumps, dies covering Argentina, Netherlands World Cup match in Qatar
An American sports journalist, Grant Wahl, 48, on Friday. slumped and died in the press tribune while covering Argentina-Netherlands quarter final match in Qatar. The Wall Street Journal said Wahl died of suspected heart attack.
Grant Wahl had an encounter with the Qatar World Cup organisers last month over a rainbow LGBTQ shirt.
Wahl was covering the quarter-final match on Friday with his family on his side.
Grant Wahl reported sports CBS Sports and other media.
Wahl’s wife, Celine Gounder, an epidemiologist, was cited to have said on Twitter: “I’m in complete shock.”
A Qatar organising committee spokesperson was also cited to have said “he received immediate emergency medical treatment on site, which continued as he was transferred by ambulance to Hamad General Hospital.
“We offer our deepest condolences to Grant’s family, friends and his many close colleagues in the media.”
