Uzodimma defends Buhari’s delay in signing Electoral Act Bill  

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has defended President Muhammadu Buhari on his continuous delay to sign the amended electoral act bill. The Imo governor noted that the pressure on the President to sign the amended electoral bill was unnecessary.

Governor Uzodimma in Owerri argued that the 1999 constitution as amended clearly stipulates the process of law making.

He accused agitators for the signing of the electoral act amendment bill by the president of propaganda to intimidate President Buhari. He noted that the president needs time to study the act enacted by the National Assembly, and also make consultations before signing the bill into law.

Uzodinma declared: “I don’t understand the anxiety and propaganda of trying to force and blackmail the president into signing the electoral act without following the constitutional dictates by ensuring that he will study the electoral act.

“He has the mandate of all of us, over 200 million Nigerians. He will study the act and if there are things in his opinion he considers not in the best interest of the people, he has to address it. All these social clubs and anxieties here and there is not the best thing.

“I think we should allow the president to do his job. We have seen people making utterances here and there that the president must sign. The Constitution has expressly defined the process of making laws and none of those processes has been violated.”

Meanwhile, Uzodinma appeared to be on a goose chase as President Buhari on Wednesday covertly disclosed he will assent to the bill on Friday.
