Yobe vaccinates over 5million livestock within 7years – Dr Gaidam
The Yobe State Government Livestock Pilot DevelopmentProgramme Manager, Dr Mustapha Gaidam has disclosed that no fewer than five million livestock were vaccinated against trans-boundary diseases between 2009 and 2015, in Damaturu over the weekend.
Gaidam who listed the animal vaccinated as cattle, sheep and goats reiterated that it was aimed at producing healthy animals. He also revealed that the government had procured veterinary clinical equipment, artificial insemination equipment, vaccines with reagents cum laboratory diagnostics equipment, which were distributed to zonal and area veterinary offices.
The Yobe Livestock Programme Manager stated that the drugs are made available and affordable to facilities’ healthcare services to the doorstep of livestock farmers in the state for economic growth.
Gaidam who also pointed out that grazing reserves were developed in Dilawa, Gumsi, Tarajam, Alagarno, Mashio, Gumsa, Nasari/Jakusko, Gujba and Nguru in order to improve the feeding of the livestock and also curb migration, reaffirmed that over 1,000 cattle routes were demarcated across the state within the period in order to ease movements of livestock and to avert farmer/grazer conflicts. Aside medical and grazing issues, the manager also said the government has provided sources of water at designated areas to service the livestock with safe and clean water.
