Zelensky fires security chief, top prosecutor over alleged sabotage
President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine has fired head of domestic security service and state prosecutor on allegations sabotage, treason and collaboration with Russia in the ongoing war in Ukraine.
President Zelenskiy lamented that over 60 officials of the SBU security service and prosecutor’s office were working against Ukraine in the territories occupied by Russian-in the eastern part of the country; noting 651 cases of treason and collaboration has been established against Ukrainian security operatives.
The head of the security service, Ivan Bakanov, and Prosecutor General, Iryna Venediktova, were identified to be leading the prosecution of Russian war crimes. They were said to be involved series of treason cases, facilitating infiltration of Russian forces as Ukraine fights Russia for survival.
According to Zelensky, “Such an array of crimes against the foundations of the national security of the state … pose very serious questions to the relevant leaders.
“Each of these questions will receive a proper answer.
“Sufficient evidence has been collected to report this person on suspicion of treason. All his criminal activities are documented.”
