Umaru Easyam, a herdsman, has been arraigned before a Makurdi Magistrate Court for raping a pregnant housewife. He was said to have abandoned his cattle in the bush and waylaid the woman, who was returning from her farm and raped her.
The incident happened at the Gwer West Local Government of the state. He was arrested by officials of the Civilian Joint Task Force/Livestock Guards. The woman’s husband said the suspect was about to escape before he was apprehended.
The prosecutor, Godwin Ato, told the court that investigation was still in progress and asked for another date.
Chief Magistrate, Justice Isaac Ajim, ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prison, Makurdi, and adjourned the case to February 20, 2018 for further mention.
