13-year old gets justice two years after defilement by soldier
A 13-year old girl who was assaulted and defiled by a soldier in Bama local government area of Borno state has finally got justice two years after the offence was committed against the minor.
On Wednesday, 7th Division of General Court Martial of Operation Lafiya Dole, found Corporal Aliyu Yakubu guilty of the crime based on the evidence before the court.
He was subsequently dismissed from service and also handed a five-year jail sentence.
The disgraced soldier was reported to have committed the crime on 1 July, 2018 while he was serving in 202 Battalion in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.
Yakubu according to witnesses had carnal knowledge of the 13-year-old girl in an uncompleted building after forcefully hitting her head against the wall until she lost consciousness.
The judgement is still subject to confirmation by the military high command.
