15 die as Biafra militia confronts Chinese warships in Bakassi

The militia wing of the Biafra separatist group, Biafra Nations League (BnL), operating in the Bakassi Peninsula and the Gulf of Guinea on the continental shelf of Nigeria and Cameroon, the Black Marine, at the weekend was reported to have confronted Chinese warships in Bakassi waterways. The confrontation was said to have resulted in the death of 15 persons on both sides of the forces.

The BnL pro Biafra militant group, Black Marine, was said to have in the confrontation, which they deployed five gunboats, damaged two warships of the Chinese mercenaries sailing in the Bakassi waterways.

The militants were said to be heavily armed and fully prepared for the battle. Though, succeeded in damaging the two Chinese warships that were confronted, they were said to have also suffered casualties, losing some members in the fight, however, inflicting casualties on the foreign mercenaries and Navy officers, who also died in the confrontation.

Warships belonging to the Nigerian Government were said to have retreated following the casualties in the encounter which was said to have occurred at 9.00am last Friday.

The Black Marine has been notorious for militant activities in the Bakassi Peninsula, essentially in border communities between Nigeria and Cameroon. The group had at different times been identified to be an affiliate of the Biafra Nations League, an advocacy group for the sovereign state of Biafra operating in the waterways of the Bakassi.

The group, at different times, also confront the military of the Cameroon Republic.
