Buhari steps up oil exploration in northern Nigeria
The NNPC has started more vigorous oil exploration activities in Bauchi, the frontier basin in Chad, and will search around the region for more.
Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Maikanti Baru, revealed this to Bauchi’s Gov Mohammed Abubakar during Baru’s courtesy visit in Abuja. The NNPC boss said the order came from President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to Baru, the NNPC currently has exploration activities going on in those places, and that Shell has made indicative discovery of hydrocarbons there.

According to him, the President has directed the NNPC to go into that area to improve and further explore the magnitude and prospect of those finds.
“We will re-invigorate the Frontier Exploration Services and see how they collaborate with the Northern Nigeria Development Company, NNDC.” he said.
Baru also noted the NNDC is holding bloc 809 where they have some of the finds.
