Humans have come a long way since the days of hunting, gathering, fearing, and surviving.
Today, most people are reasonably comfortable with their life to focus on things such as personal growth. This is an idea that is gaining momentum as we speak and something Keerthan Shetty also believes in.
Here are his three critical practices to bring it about.
Be Honest
It’s not easy to be honest, they say, and that’s true. However, is it quite possible that we believe it to be so because almost everyone else says so? According to Keerthan Shetty, “Honesty is natural. We learn to lie.
And while there are probably practical reasons and certain situations where we might feel it right to hide the truth, it comes down to how our judgment is determined morally and ethically.
Being honest is a great way to truly understand yourself and the world and know when others are lying or telling the truth. In essence, it helps you firmly plant your feet in the world instead of feeling as if you’re walking on broken glass everywhere.”
Be Humble
Humility is courage. In our world, where much is driven by appearances, which can sometimes be limited to some ideas and philosophies, humility is often forgotten at the doorstep.
For Keerthan, that’s a sad state of affairs because “this disregard for humility does more harm to us than we realize. Lack of humility can narrow our sense of what’s possible. It can and often does lead to poor self-estimation and blunt one’s ability to sense danger and difficulties.
However, when you are humble, you are on guard and your feet are firmly rooted in reality. It keeps your surviving and thriving instincts sharp.”
Be Curious
Curiosity, many scientists believe, may well be the reason that has helped humanity evolve to such an extent compared to its ancestors. This brain of ours is magical in ways we do not yet comprehend. For Keerthan, taking our curiosities seriously is a great way to find our niche.
He says, “Curiosity gives us a purpose, a sense of doing what we feel we must do. In today’s world, where you are just a thought away from bringing something new and useful into the world, curiosity is a useful instinct to cultivate.”
Keerthan Shetty’s words are well-measured and showcase a well-examined life. His three key practices for personal growth seem to hold the potential for a fundamentally fulfilling life.
