UK to support Nigeria’s efforts at addressing insecurity – Official
The UK Government is to support Nigeria’s efforts at addressing insecurity.
Mr Sam Waldock, Head of Governance, Conflict and Social Development in British High Commission gave the assurance when he visited Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Tuesday in Sokoto.
He noted the security challenges in the northwest region of Nigeria.
He added that the northwest states of Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi were experiencing security challenges that had slowed economic growth and development.
He commended the Sokoto state government for its efforts at ensuring prudent fiscal transparency and accountability in dispensing state resources.
Waldock called on other states to emulate Gov. Tambuwal.
Responding, Tambuwal commended the UK government’s willingness to help Nigeria.
“Nigeria deserves support in addressing the security challenges.
”The UK is a historic partner of Nigeria,” he said.
Tambuwal appealed for increased consideration in order to strengthen the nation’s military and other security architecture.
He appealed for a better and greater collaboration between Nigeria and the UK in all sectors, noting that the situation in Nigeria was pathetic, frightening and troublesome.
He stressed the need for the UK government to assist President Muhammadu Buhari and the people of Nigeria in finding a lasting solution to the present security challenges.
