2023: Osinbajo fears neither he nor Tinubu, others are popular
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is worried the 2023 general election will not be a walkover without President Muhammadu Buhari’s presence.
Buhari will serve out his two terms in 2023, and he has no constitutional backing still being a feature in INEC’s election management activities.
But Osinbajo said Buhari’s presence on the ballot materials matters.
“Today, the APC can win elections, why not? We have a very popular President who can control significant votes,” the V.P said while receiving the June APC Youth Conference report.
Buhari, for both terms, got the highest number of votes from the north, and had got it right from the start of his struggle to rule Nigeria as a civilian president in 2003.
“In the coming years, when we do not have such a political leader who is as popular as the President, you are going to need to do the hard work.”
Osinbajo, his godfather and APC national leader Bola Tinubu, Ekiti Gov Kayode Fayemi are among those Nigerians believe will duke it out at the APC primary in the lead-up to 2023.
None of them, Osinabjo fears, is popular.
He urged the youth to not assume that the votes will all come in.
“This lobby group will need to deal with the issue of inclusion at the grassroots first.”
