71 terrorists embedded in IDP camps arrested
No fewer than 71 terror suspects, including two female logistics suppliers, Mrs. Aisha Umar, 19, and Mrs. Kaltumi Bakura, 20, have been arrested by troops at the Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDP) Camp in Bama, Borno.
Defence Headquarters (DHQ) spokesman Brig.-Gen. Benard Onyeuko, who gave an update on troops’ operations, said 31 insurgents were killed in two weeks.
Brig.-Gen. Onyeuko said federal troops and other security agencies have continued to sustain the operational tempo in the land, maritime and air operations across the various theatres of operation in the country.
“The operational activities of our troops across the country in the past two weeks recorded significant results.”
In his breakdown of the military operations, Gen. Onyeuko said the land and air operations of troops of Operation Hadin Kai across the Northeast theatre yielded commendable results.
“Other locations were; Gurawa village under Kundum District in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State as well as Jankasa village in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, Wasa Station in Sanga Local Government Area and Agban village in Jama’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
“These operations led to the recovery of seven assorted arms, 19 rounds of 7.62mm and 104 livestock among other items. Troops’ response to distress calls helped to repel and forestall criminal elements and their activities, thereby leading to the rescue of 33 victims of armed bandits’ attacks and kidnap incidents and the arrest of 23 criminal elements within the period,” he said.
