The 10 Biggest beefs in the Nigerian music industry
There is rivalry everywhere. In football. In politics. And in music too. People are always fighting for superiority, resulting in a clash with one person or the other.
1. MI vs Kelly Hansome: Back in the days, Kelly Hansome was very popular for his hit song ‘Maga Don Pay.’ He was also popular for releasing diss tracks and he had a clash with MI Abaga, who released the song ‘Beef’ in reply.
2. Don Jazzy vs Olamide: At the Headies Awards, Reekado Banks won the Headies Next Rated Award, but Olamide felt Lil Kesh deserved the award instead. This led to a clash between him and Don Jazzy.
3. 2face vs Black Face: After the group ‘Plantashun Boiz’ split up, there seemed to be some bitterness among the members. BlackFace accused 2face of stealing his song and released a diss song calling out 2face.
4. Wande Coal vs Kelly Hansome: Kelly Hansome clashed with many notable Nigerian musicians and Wande Coal was not left out. In reply, he released the track, ‘Na Who Born The Maga?’
5. Ruggedman vs Mode 9: Two famed rappers in the industry, they had issues, which led to Ruggedman releasing the diss track ‘Banging’ and Mode 9 replied with ‘Elbow Room.’
6. Terry G vs Mallam Spicey: Terry G called out Mallam Spicey and the latter wasted no time in replying with the track, ‘1,005 naira.’
7. 9ice vs Ruggedman: 9ice released the diss track ‘Talk, I am Listening’ when he had a clash with Ruggedman.
8. Kelly Hansome vs Mo Hits: Kelly Hansome never got tired of dissing anybody that came his way. He released the diss track ‘Igwe Kom Kom’ as a response to Wande Coal and the rest of the Mo Hits.
9. Sinzu vs Godwon: These two music artistes had a clash at some point and Sinzu released the diss track ‘Exit Strategy.’
10. Wizkid vs Davido: This is probably the biggest beef ever in the Nigerian music industry. I saved the best for the last, yea? Their rivalry is synonymous with the ‘Ronaldo and Messi’ rivalry. They seem to be involved in an endless battle for superiority and they command the biggest fan base.
Wizkid once took a swing at Davido, saying ‘The ‘Future’ you see is better than the footballer (Ronaldo) you don’t see.’
And Davido wasted no time in replying, ‘The footballer you don’t see is better than the Drake that never came closer.’
