Germany, Ukraine cautious over US war pressures

The tension at the Ukraine border with Russia has continued rise higher as the United States (US) sustained constant warnings of possible outbreak of war. Ukraine and Germany have, however, been cautious not to provoke violent war in their territories.

The Foreign Minister pf Germany, Annalena Baerbock, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on Saturday made a strong case of caution in attempts to guess or assume the decisions of Russia on Ukraine, trying to mitigate the pressures for war after the US had made conclusion on an imminent invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, declared: “We do not know yet if an attack has been decided on.

“Threat against Ukraine is very real”.

President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, at the Munich Security Conference, was also cautious about pressures for from the US, noting that there is no need for panic in Ukraine.

Zelensky in interaction with top-level officials and security experts from around the world at the Conference said: “We do not think that we need to panic.”

President Joe Biden of US has persistently raised alarm that he is “convinced” Russian President Vladimir Putin had “made the decision” to attack Ukraine. This has been generating fears of a major war in Europe.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, hosting a G7 foreign ministers’ meeting in Munich, revealed that the seven most developed nations (G7) which include the US, had declared that  they are “united” in their support for Ukraine and determined to respond to any violation of its sovereignty.

Baerbock had told President Putin “Pull your troops back, avoid damage to Russia and Ukraine and let us talk.”

Baerbock, however, does not conform to the US insistence that Russia would invade Ukraine any moment now.

according to Baerbock, “In crisis situations, the most inappropriate thing to do is to somehow guess or assume.”

The Germany government, however, on Saturday directed its citizens to leave Ukraine.\
