Police nab five kidnappers, rescue victims in Edo

The Edo State Police Command in a raid on kidnappers’ hideout in Udo Community of Iguobazua, Ovia South-West Local Government Area, Edo State, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Iguobazua, nabbed five kidnappers and rescued two victims in their hostage.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Edo Command, Kongtons Bello, in a statement, identified the arrested suspects as Mohammed Ali – 25 years, Abdullahi Umar – 39 years, Bello Tambaya -24, Hassan Mohammad 24, and Adamu Bello 26 years.

The principal suspect, Babuga, was said to be on the run.

The PPRO disclosed that the suspected kidnappers were involved in a kidnapping operation on February 4. He said that they will be charged to court after investigations.

The Edo State Police Command in another operation, saved three kidnapped victims in the vicinity of Unomi Farmland in Iddo Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area, as well as some others in the hostage of the kidnappers.

The PPRO narrated that the Edo State Police Command acted swiftly on intelligence report that kidnappers carrying dangerous weapons were sighted near  Unomi Farmland in Iddo Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area and escaping with kidnapped victims. He said that the kidnappers were overwhelmed by the police in exchange of gunfire, with some sustaining injuries, compelling them to abandon their victims and flee.

The PPRO identified the rescued victims simply as Marcellus, Ekhayeme, Igbafe, Austine and Musa Aliu

The victims revealed to the police on interrogation, that they were kidnapped at Iyiku, near Jattu Area of Auchi on February 8.

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Philip Aliyu Ogbadu, promised residents of the state that their security is guaranteed, appealing that citizen provide the police useful information and intelligence.
