IWD: PRP aspirant advocates stringent punishment for offenders of violence against women.

A female presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Mrs Patience Key, on Tuesday advocated stringent punishment for offenders of violence against women.

Key, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in New York, made a passionate appeal to the three arms of government to address violence against women.

Key spoke on the sideline of the International Women’s Day (IWD), globally marked on March 8, to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

She called for a check with strict punishments for violence against Women and the Girl-Child which happened to be trending in most part of the world, including Nigeria.

According to her, this ungodly and inhumane attitude is unforgivable and should be seen as a crime against humanity; and perpetrators should be met with strict punishment.

She appealed to the Nigerian government to consolidate on their prior effort to curb security issues and bring lasting peace as women are at the receiving end of every violence and crisis.

She also called on women to rally round their own, with support for her as she joined the presidential race to liberate Nigeria and women.

Key also charged women to take up leadership positions by increasing participation in the political arena where power is taken and not given as that alone will guarantee their complete freedom in the world where women reside with the odd most times.

She emphasised the need for women to understand the world they live in with the knowledge that women formed largely most of the world’s population.

“Women form majority in every country by extension, which means they have control of political power in every region/country, because power is acquired via politics through numbers.’’

Key, the immediate past Chairman of NIDO Americas, USA, also admonished women in Nigeria to come together and reason on possible ways of moving the nation forward since strategies implored by men had failed its citizens.

In achieving that, she said women are catalysts of unity because they give birth to humanity and so they must assume control of same to restore patriotism.
