Hoodlums attack Hausa traders in Ede, community rises in defence; one dead
Hoodlums led by their leader attacked a group of Hausa men going about their business in Ede, Osun, but the entire community rose again them, leading to violence that saw some dead on Tuesday.
According to eyewitnesses, the thugs were led by the second-in-command of a notorious gang, Rasheed Oko-Ilu, already wanted by the police.
The locals said three of the hoodlums were killed, including their leader.
The Seriki Hausa in Ede, Alhaji Gambo Ibrahim, who confirmed the attack, said the hoodlums already known to the community assaulted traders in the market, including Yoruba traders.
Seriki added that some properties were stolen, while many commodities were destroyed in the clash before the police came to put dowse the tension.
The Osun Police Command spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola said some hoodlums invaded Sabo community in Ede and seized motorcycles belonging to some Hausa residents.
“However, the people in the community resisted them leading to pandemonium in the area and in the process one person was killed,” he said.
